The Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) has bestowed its highest recognition for school financial responsibility, the Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations, to Harmony Public Schools.
Announced Thursday, March 7, 2019 at TASBO’s annual awards ceremony, the designation recognizes Harmony for its exemplary purchasing practices for its 56 campuses statewide. In choosing recipients, TASBO reviewed various procedures and practices including organization, policies and procedures, contract operations, staff training and certification, use of technology, communication, and management of co-operative programs.
“Our highest financial responsibility as a public school system is to be good stewards of the funds entrusted to our schools,” Harmony Public Schools CEO Fatih Ay said. “Spending those funds in a way that is transparent, ethical, efficient, and always puts the needs of our students and staff first is critical to providing the best educational environment possible. We appreciate not only our Finance Department for its hard work and responsible practices, but also our teachers and team members at campuses across the state who help our schools operate as efficiently as possible without sacrificing educational quality.”
Harmony Public Schools are 56 free, high-performing, PreK-12 college preparatory charter schools specializing in STEM and character education. The TASBO award was the second major recognition for Harmony’s financial practices of the 2018-19 school year. In November, the Texas Education Agency awarded a ‘Superior” financial accountability rating to each of Harmony’s seven Texas districts in its annual School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). Six of those districts received a perfect 100 score.
