Local non-profit Shield Bearer receives $10,000 Grant from Kohl’s Cares

Shield Bearer, a local non-profit organization that provides professional counseling services and prevention programs for individuals, couples, and families, was selected to receive a $10,000 grant from Kohl’s philanthropic program, Kohl’s Cares®. The Kohl’s Cares® program donates 100% of the net profits from designated children’s books and toys to charitable initiatives nationwide.

Now with six locations in the NW Houston area, Shield Bearer sees thousands of families each year including those experiencing the trauma of domestic violence, human trafficking, crime, war, natural disasters and more. Executive Director Roy Wooten stated, “We are so thankful for the work the Kohl’s Cares® program is doing in our community. This grant will make a big impact by allowing us to continue offering counseling services and programs for clients that need assistance on a sliding scale and helping support prevention and training initiatives.”
