American Red Cross Celebrates Veterans Day With Donations From Local Students

HOUSTON, TX (November 13, 2018) – In an effort this holiday season to honor the men and women who’ve served in the military, the American Red Cross is accepting donations for veterans donated by students from Harmony School of Endeavor.  This act of kindness on the part of the students is in line with the mission of the Red Cross’ Service to the Armed Forces.

“Providing care and comfort to the members of our Armed Forces and their families was the founding service of the American Red Cross.  Service to the Armed Forces is a mixture of both tradition and innovation.  We provide support to military families, we are present in military and veterans hospitals, and conduct emergency communication services for our military who is deployed and has a crisis happening here at home.  The items the children donate to the Red Cross will be used to make comfort kits that we give to veterans at the hospital we serve as well as homeless veterans we come in contact with,” said Kimberly Knights, Service to the Armed Forces & International Social Services Manager.

“As a veteran, spouse of a veteran, and a member of a long-standing military family, I understand the significance of and honor that comes from serving others. Here at Harmony School of Endeavor, we believe that together we R.I.S.E.  That means that we respect ourselves and others, work and live with integrity, support each other, and encourage one another to do and be our best every day,” said DeShanna King-Seifert, Assistant Principal-Dean of Students, Harmony School of Endeavor-Houston.  “As an educator and administrator, the most important lesson for our students to learn is that although they may never see the person that receives their contribution, their willingness to extend gratitude will make a world of difference to them.”

Every day and throughout the year, the Red Cross serves 2 million military personnel and veterans by providing 24/7 global emergency communication services and support in health care facilities across the country and around the globe. More than 14,000 volunteers and employees help military families cope with deployments and support returning combat veterans as they reintegrate into the community.  To further support this mission, the Red Cross also offers training to more than 22,000 family members in improving coping skills and resiliency, and supports veterans through rehabilitation and morale programs.
