Social Security Specialist To Speak At Cinco Ranch Branch Library

Andrew Hardwick, a Metropolitan Public Affairs Specialist for the Social Security Administration, will present a program on “Social Security 101” on Monday, December 10, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., in the Meeting Room at the Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.

Hardwick will provide an overview of Social Security and the Medicare program. Learn how and when to apply; how early retirement affects one’s benefits; how to maximize one’s benefits; the differences between Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D; and online tools at the Social Security Administration’s website.

Those attending this workshop may want to set up a “my Social Security” account online at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount and print out a Social Security Statement before arriving at the class so that Hardwick may address any questions they have.

“Not filing at the right time can result in penalties, meaning paying higher premiums for Medicare Parts B and D,” says Hardwick. “Many seniors are working at 65, and there is much confusion as to whether they should file for Medicare if they are covered through their employer or their spouse’s employer.”

A graduate of Brigham Young University, Hardwick has worked for the Social Security Administration for more than 30 years.

This presentation is free and open to the public. People aged 60 to 65, as well as their family members and caregivers, are encouraged to attend. For more information, call the Cinco Ranch Branch Library at 281-395-1311 or the library system’s Communications Office at 281-633-4734.
