(Fulshear, TX – Oct. 12, 2018)        —        Scarecrow Fest is returning to Fulshear Cross Creek Ranch Saturday, Oct. 20, with more rides, more activities and a Justice League full of “ex-straw-dinary” super scarecrows.

Creating the colorful second place winner in last year’s Scarecrow Fest “Scarecrowlympics” was Rowena Laine shown here with her husband Daniel Laine and sons Nicolas, left, and Mason. Scarecrow Fest returns this year with a superhero theme 1-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.

Presented by Smart Financial, the fall carnival — now in its 10th year —will take place from 1-6 p.m. at 6450 Cross Creek Bend Lane.

Last year’s Scarecrow Fest attracted nearly 8,000 attendees drawn by carnival rides, performances, food and the annual scarecrow decorating contest.

“Scarecrow Fest is something our residents and the Fulshear community look forward to year after year,” said Rob Bamford, general manager for Cross Creek Ranch. “It’s really become part of the fabric of life out here. Each year is bigger and better. We’re always adding new activities and performers.”

One thing that hasn’t changed is the popular scarecrow decorating contest. This year’s challenge? To create superheroes out of straw.

“Superheroes are fun,” Bamford said. “The possibilities for creativity are endless. Will we see a trick-or-treating Thor, or a Spidercrow? We don’t know. That’s half the fun of this.”

The most creative scarecrow will win its creators a $1,000 grand prize. Second place finishers receive $500 and third place wins $250. The deadline to register is 5 p.m. on Friday, October 12.

The festival also includes a live band, pumpkin patch, face painting, performances by Dock Dogs, photo opportunities with a capuchin monkey and midway merchants. Sky King Falconry will introduce guests to hawks, owls, falcons, vultures and other raptors. Brazos Bend State Park will host a meet-and-greet with snakes and reptiles.

An array of food trucks including The Crepe Machine, The Melt Grilled Cheese Truck, Bake Potato Truck, Curbside Sliderz Of Katy, Anna’s Greek Gourmet, Friohana Ice, Tugo Kitchen, Mooseum Ice Cream and Mary Had A Little Party will keep hunger pains at bay.

Admission to Scarecrow Fest is free; however, wristbands for all-day carnival rides can be purchased in advance for $10, or for $15 at the door.

Scarecrow Fest sponsors include Smart Financial, the City of Fulshear, BMW, Birds Eye View Optometry, Greater Houston Real Estate Partners, Trendmaker Homes, Houston Pediatric Dental, A Pet’s Domain, Golden Eagle Taekwondo, Glamour Gypsies, H-E-B, Fulshear Ace Hardware, Raising Canes, Well Pet Center Veterinary Hospital, Inframark, Top Golf, Glamour Gypsies Traveling Boutique, Below Zero Pops, Learning Rx, Brazos Bend State Park, Heritage Texas Properties and Volterra Energy.

Proceeds from the event benefit Texana Center, a non-profit organization provides treatment for autism, programs for adults with intellectual disabilities and those with behavioral healthcare issues. Last year, Scarecrow Fest raised $20,000 for charity.
