Hutsell Elementary Celebrates 40 Years of Educational Excellence

KATY [October 11, 2018] – It has been four decades since Katy Independent School District added yet another school to its growing district. This one would be located off of Franz Road.  It was August 1978, when Hutsell Elementary School (HE) opened its doors to students for the first time.  The goal of its administration was to provide educational excellence to its young lifelong learners.  Fast forward to present day and the school’s mission statement, to provide an outstanding educational program to every student, still stands strong as they serve a diverse group of students known as the “Hutsell Hornets”.

“Hutsell’s academic success is attributed to our dedicated faculty and our community who take great pride in the education offered to our students,” said Dr. Margie Blount, principal of Hutsell Elementary School.  “Every day we are creating legacies in a nurturing environment where every student can succeed.  Zelma Hutsell would be very proud of the accomplishments of this school, which now displays her name,” added Blount.

The school was named after Zelma Lenore Wickerson Hutsell who was a teacher and administrator in the Katy school system for 24 years.  She retired in 1967 but not before touching the lives of many students, staff and residents in the Katy area.
