Katy ISD Groups Recognized as Mark of Excellence National Winners  

KATY [September 28, 2018] – Once again this year Katy Independent School District has numerous winners in the Foundation for Music Education Mark of Excellence Competition.  This year seven Katy ISD groups were recognized as national winners in this prestigious event.  This national gathering brings together over 250 ensembles from 38 different states.  The following choir, orchestra and band groups were recognized in various honors projects:

  • Beckendorff Junior High Honor Orchestra, directed by Karel Butz, National Orchestra Honors project.
  • WoodCreek Junior High Varsity Treble Choir, directed by Anne M. Guess, National Choral Honors project.
  • Cinco Ranch Junior High Honors Band, directed by Rachelle Isaacson, National Wind Band Honors project.
  • Seven Lakes High School Sinfonia Orchestra, Symphony Strings and Symphony Orchestra, directed by Desiree A. Overree and John Mays, National Orchestra Honors project.
  • James Taylor High School Chamber Orchestra, directed by Clinton Capshaw, National Orchestra Honors project.

“It’s an honor for Katy ISD students to be recognized for the Mark of Excellence Award and to be provided the opportunity to compare their performances with those from across the United States,” said Michael Ouellette, Executive Director of Fine Arts.  “Katy ISD is known for its academic excellence as well as its support and advancement of music education,” added Ouellette.
