Sen. Cruz Commends D.C. Council Chairman Mendelson for Introducing Hidden Figures Way Designation Act

‘Renaming the street in front of NASA’s headquarters ‘Hidden Figures Way’ will ensure their legacy of brilliance, strength, and resilience will not be forgotten’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today commended Washington, D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and D.C. Councilmembers for introducing legislation similar to his Hidden Figures Way Designation Act. This bipartisan bill designates the street in front of NASA’s headquarters as “Hidden Figures Way,” in honor of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, who were featured in the movie Hidden Figures, and all women who have dedicated their lives to honorably serving their country, advancing equality, and contributing to the space program of the United States. In a strong show of support for this legislation, Chairman Mendelson was joined by all 12 Councilmembers on the D.C. Council in introducing the bill.

“I want to thank Chairman Mendelson and the Councilmembers on the D.C. Council for working with us to advance this important tribute to the women and hidden figures who have until now worked in obscurity at NASA,” Sen. Cruz said. “Their contributions to the space program charted a new course for American leadership in space and the next generation of astronauts, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. Renaming the street in front of NASA’s headquarters ‘Hidden Figures Way’ will ensure their legacy of brilliance, strength, and resilience will not be forgotten. I look forward to working with Chairman Mendelson and the D.C. Council to ensure that this tribute is enacted before the end of the year.”
