Thomas Juarez – 1940 – 2018

Tom Juarez

Tom arrived in Katy, Texas in 1994 drawn by the lure of building a Water Park Theme Park. The park didn’t work out. However with his God given talent to envision things that could be and much determination, numerous subdivisions popped up in and around Katy: Remington Trails, Whispering Lakes, Victoria Lakes and Fawnlake are a few.

Tom joined Rotary International and the Katy Rotary Club.  From there he started the Katy Sunrise Rotary Club and started the Washington County Rotary Club that grew so large that they split and now have two Rotary Clubs in the Brenham area.

Tom’s energy never stopped, especially when helping children and the less fortunate.  With Rotary he made over 15 trips to Guerrero, Mexico aiding in a free clinic for the poor by assisting in the dental unit.  The rest of the dental unit would say Tom just took over and ran the whole thing. He bought land in Mexico and turned it over to the Mexican Government with the understanding they would build the shell of a new Kindergarten school. They did and Abraham Gonzales School #1144 was started and today accommodated 176 young students.  He set up a fund to feed 144 children in Columbia in order to get them off the streets and in school.  He helped both, children and parents, in Nicaragua get in school and out of literally living in the city dump.

Tom met Suzanne Moore on an airplane in 1999.  He was trying to propose on a cruise ship in 2006, but became absolutely speechless for the first time in his life. Suzanne figured out his sign language and said “I do” in 2007.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Ciro Francisco and Stephana Nunez Juarez, and a brother Andrew Ralph Juarez.  Tom is survived by his wife, Suzanne; sister Yvonne Meyer; brother Dr. Cyrus Juarez, and a large legacy in the sheer number of his offspring; two children, Michael Juarez and Jaqueline Cama; Two children by marriage Michael and Ginger Moore; 8 grandchildren, Michael, Blair, Briane, Danielle, Steven, Nicholas, Samantha and Ryan; and to date 13.5 great grandchildren.
