Ward A Council Member Gary Jones said Saturday that he will resign from the Katy City Council for what he described as “very personal family matters.”
The city council will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday to formally consider and accept his resignation. It is the only item on the agenda for that meeting.
Jones said things came together “fairly quickly” to persuade his decision.
“This is a very personal matter that requires my dealing with it,” Jones said. “I cannot devote my time to council and city issues with this on my mind.”
Jones was appointed to the council in June 2015 to succeed William “Bill” Lawton III, who died of cancer following his own election in May 2015. Jones was elected to a term in his own right last year. His term expires next year.
