Houston, TX – July 10, 2018 – Katherine Tyra Branch Library @ Bear Creek is proud to present several exciting upcoming events and activities for the week of July 23 to July 28.  All are welcome to attend.


Upcoming Events

Computer Help by Appointment

Monday, July 23   3:00 PM to 3:30 PM,   AND
Monday, July 23   3:30 PM to 4:00 PM
Reserve a 30 minute session to troubleshoot an issue with your computer, tablet or

phone. Or, learn how to download the library’s e-books or e-audiobooks to your device.

Please bring your device with you. Registration is required.

 

Sheet Music Art

Monday, July 23    4:00 PM

Join us as we use sheet music to create mixed media art. All art supplies will be

provided. Students in grades 6-12 are invited to attend this program. Registration is not

required, however you can RSVP by calling or visiting the library.

 

Community Health Fair

Tuesday, July 24         2:30 PM to 4:30 PM  and,
Wednesday, July 25    2:30 PM to 4:30 PM

The West Houston Community Health Center will visit the library to provide free health screenings for blood pressure, BMI and weight checks. Learn more about healthy eating and lifestyles, plus diabetes education. Come and ask the experts!


Intro to Fencing for Grades 6 to 8

Wednesday, July 25    6:00 PM

Get introduced to fencing during this fun program. Students in grades 6-8 are invited to

attend this program. No previous experience is required. All participants must have a

parent/guardian sign a waiver prior to attending this program. There is limited space

available so please sign up by calling 832-927-5590.

 

ESL Conversation

Thursday, July 26    2:00 PM

Come to the library on Thursday afternoons to improve your English speaking skills. We

will discuss several topics and enjoy conversation practice together. This ESL

Conversation class is free. No registration is required.

 

Savvy Stitchers

            Thursday, July 26    3:30 PM
The Savvy Stitchers is a place to share ideas for different crafts such as knitting and

crochet! Don’t miss out on the weekly fun! Make sure to bring your needles and yarn. All

ages welcome.

 

Help from Texans Recovering Together

            Friday, July 27   2:00 PM

Have you or your family been affected by Hurricane Harvey? Do you know someone who

is still recovering? Come to the library to visit with professionals from Texans Recovering

Together. They provide free crisis counseling, resource referrals, skill building, disaster

education & awareness information and support for grief/loss. You are not alone. This is

a free resource from the Harris Center for Mental Health for anyone in need.

 

Social Crafters

Join our new social crafting group! Are you working on a craft or fabric arts project now?
Bring a project to the library and share your ideas with others. Or, just come to learn

more about crafts you may want to try. All are welcome!

 

Children’s Activities


Lunch Bunch
             Monday, July 23 through Friday, July 27  1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
This is a special Summer Feeding program sponsored by the Houston Food Bank. We

are serving Free lunch to kids ages 0-18, we will also offer a lunch to the parent/caregiver

who accompanies the child to the program. Come enjoy a balanced meal and enjoy fun

activities at the library too!

 

Preschool Storytime

Tuesday, July 24   10:30 AM

Early literacy program with stories, songs, fingerplays, and the occasional craft geared

towards preschoolers aged 3-6 years old. In order to ensure the safety of our youngest

patrons, this is a ticketed program. Free tickets are available on the morning of the

program. First come, first served.

 

Infant Time

Wednesday, July 25    10:30 AM

Infant Time is an early literacy program for the children ages birth to 18 months. Please

join us as we share literacy tips, stories, songs, fingerplays, bubbles and books. In order

to ensure the safety of our youngest patrons this is a ticketed program. Free ticket

available on the morning of the program in the library.

 

Community Storytime

Wednesday, July 25    2:30 PM

Community Storytime is an early literacy program for children ages 18 months to 6 years.

Come join us at Clay’s Restaurant, 17717 Clay Road, as we share literacy tips, stories,

songs and fingerplays. Each week this storytime will be an adaption of our library’s

preschool or toddler program. We want to thank Clay’s Restaurant for partnering with us

in providing community storytime.

 

Toddler Storytime

Toddler Time is an early literacy program for children ages 18 months to 3 years of age.

Please join us as we share literacy tips, stories, songs and fingerplays. In order to ensure             the safety of our youngest patrons this is a ticketed program. Free tickets are available on

Lily’s Library Tales

Come to the library for a family friendly storytime with Lily, a certified therapy dog! This

program is in partnership with Tender Loving K-9s. All ages welcome.

 

Para Los Niños Storytime

Saturday, July 28    2:30 PM

Bilingual storytime and activities for children 3-7 and their parent/caregivers. Sign up by

calling (832)927-5590 or stopping by our service desk to reserve your spot in this

program. Limited number of places available. Each family will receive a pass to the

Houston Children’s Museum!
