Bayou City Art Festival Downtown Announces Call for Volunteers for October 13-14, 2018

HOUSTON, July 11, 2018 – The Art Colony Association, Inc. (ACA) is looking for volunteers for the Bayou City Art Festival Downtown on Saturday and Sunday, October 13- 14, 2018. Volunteers have the option of choosing various roles and shifts for either or both days. Shifts for Friday afternoon and evening will also be available to assist with artist check-in and festival load-in.

“Our volunteers are a crucial component of the success of the festival, and we are dedicated to providing them with a fun and unique volunteering experience,” said Sara Eakens, Program and Volunteer Director of the Art Colony Association. “With their support we can continue showcasing world class art while giving back to our local non-profit partners.”

The festival offers volunteers the opportunity to make new friends, view world class art and personally meet artists from around the country.  After every shift, volunteers will be entered into a raffle and have the chance to win prizes, including gift cards to local restaurants, and movie and museum tickets. All volunteers will receive a t-shirt and will be able to enjoy the festival at no cost before and after their shifts.  The minimum age to sign up is 13 and group volunteering is also available. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can sign up here.

Bayou City Art Festival will be held under the iconic Houston Downtown skyline from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. each day. The festival will spotlight 300 artists representing 19 different disciplines and benefit local non-profits.  As one of the top outdoor fine art festivals in the U.S., Bayou City Art Festival will transform the streets of Downtown into artistic avenues bursting with color and culture. Guests will have the opportunity to see and purchase unique, custom art while enjoying live music in front of City Hall and throughout the festival along with entertainment, beverage stations, food trucks and much more. In the Children’s Creative Zone, the festival’s non-profit partners will host art activities for all ages and include an interactive place to hang out.

Celebrating 47 years since the founding of the Westheimer Art Festival, now known as the Bayou City Art Festival, ACA has provided a venue for over 20,000 artists to showcase their work to thousands of art lovers from all over the world. The participating artists, some new and some returning are selected by a new jury every year. This helps create a fresh and different festival year after year.
