Cinco Ranch Branch Library Hosts Free “Classic B&W Comedy Films” Series

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library will feature a free “Classic B&W Comedy Films” series during the week of July 30 through August 3, beginning at 2:00 p.m., in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.

Each day during the week, a different classic, black-and-white comedy movie will be featured. Laugh along to the comedic antics of Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, Martin and Lewis, Crosby and Hope, and the Marx Brothers.

On Monday, July 30, the Marx Brothers take on high society in a 1935 spoof of the opera world. This musical-comedy film is not rated.

On Tuesday, July 31, the movie to be shown is a 1939 war comedy in which Laurel and Hardy join the Foreign Legion. Their bumbling eventually gets them charged with desertion and sentenced to a firing squad, but they manage to escape in a stolen airplane, only to crash after a wild ride. This movie is rated G.

On Wednesday, August 1, Bing Crosby and Bob Hope play two carefree castaways adrift on a raft in the Mediterranean in this 1942 comedy-adventure film. After landing on a desert shore, they find an Arabian Nights city, where they compete for the affections of the beautiful Princess Shalmar, played by Dorothy Lamour. This movie is not rated.

On Thursday, August 2, Abbott and Costello play two freight handlers who encounter a shipment containing the remains of Frankenstein’s monster and Dracula in this spook spoof from 1948. This horror-comedy film is not rated.

On Friday, August 3, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis star in a romantic comedy from 1951 about a young Navy seaman who gets the undeserved reputation of being a great kisser and is pursued by amorous young females. This movie is not rated.

All of the movies are free and open to the public. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. The libraries’ licensing agreement for public showing of films prohibits them from releasing the name of the movie outside of the library.
