Vegetable Production Workshop

Prairie View A&M University Cooperative Extension Program

The College of Agriculture and Human Sciences (CAHS) at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) will host a Vegetable Production Workshop on Monday, July 2, 2018. The event will take place on the main campus of PVAMU in the Carden-Waller Cooperative Extension Building at 1700 E. M. Norris Street, Prairie View, TX and the Bill and Vara Daniel Demonstration Farm located on the campus.  The event will focus on research-based information for improving the production of cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and watermelons.

Registered participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the watermelon taste test and witness the refractometer demonstration which measures the sucrose or sugar content of watermelon.  Registration is free and a complimentary lunch will be provided for registered participants.  To register and get a detailed copy of the agenda, visit their website at www.pvamu.edu/CAHS or call (936) 261-AGNR (2467) or Angela Moore at (936) 261-5002.  For meal count, pre-registration is encouraged.  However, onsite registration will also be available beginning at 8:30 a.m., with the program scheduled from 9 am to 2:30 pm.

While small-scale, new and beginning farmers and ranchers are encouraged to attend, agriculture professionals and backyard gardeners, alike, will benefit from this event.  Since its inception in 1890, PVAMU’s CAHS has and continues to address issues and best management practices in agriculture.

The Vegetable Production Workshop is a production of PVAMU’s CAHS and will be presented by Mr. Rafash Brew, Program Specialist with the CAHS Cooperative Extension Program-Ag and Natural Resources, and Dr. Ming Gao, Research Scientist in the CAHS Cooperative Agricultural Research Center. This program is sponsored, in part, by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
