AUSTIN, Texas – Recovering from a natural disaster can be trying for many reasons, but difficulty navigating the available resources and support shouldn’t be one of them. That’s why disaster case managers (DCMs) are available to simplify your recovery process. They provide a single contact person who can guide you through the process, advocate on your behalf and help secure resources to address your unmet needs.
Case managers create a bridge to access resources from state and community long-term recovery groups and volunteer organizations. They work in close partnership with you, empowering you to plan and achieve your recovery.
“The biggest benefit for survivors who are using this program is that they get one person in their corner. This person will learn and understand the Harvey survivor’s specific situation and will continue to work with them as they implement their recovery plan,” said Paul Morris, director of FEMA’s Texas Recovery Office.
You can connect with a case manager by calling 211. FEMA’s disaster case management program will be available through Aug. 24, 2019. You do not need to be registered with FEMA to work with a case manager.
FEMA grants are funding more than 600 DCMs through the State of Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the nonprofit coalition, National Voluntary Organizations Active In Disaster. Those grants enable a whole-community approach to recovery through support to voluntary, faith-based and nonprofit organizations. They also enable volunteer organizations to shift their donated dollars away from operational costs and back to survivor needs.
