KATY [May 14, 2018] – During a celebration ceremony, Katy Independent School District McMeans Junior High (MMJH) students proudly held up a new banner that will soon be displayed at their school, recognizing them as a National School to Watch. This is not the first time MMJH has received this prestigious recognition by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform, in 2015 the school received the award as well. Schools who receive this honor are high-performing campuses that have a clear focus on academic growth and achievement.
“Every student at McMeans Junior High matters! We take our role as educators very seriously because we are instrumental in creating the future legacies of this world,” said Dr. Susan Rice, principal at McMeans Junior High. “We are proud that other schools and school districts are watching our example and we’re excited to continue our legacy of excellence,” added Rice.
With the upbeat tunes and harmonious songs of MMJH orchestra, band and choirs, the campus staff celebrated this milestone accomplishment after meeting rigorous criteria. Part of the process of re-designation included national forum representatives visiting the campus to conduct interviews with students, teachers, staff and PTA members to ensure MMJH was meeting student academic requirements as well as their social/emotional needs.
