The scholarships, which range from $1,000 to $2,500, will be awarded to high school students who have participated in high school varsity tennis and/or USTA Texas tournaments or programs. Students attending college on a tennis scholarship are not eligible to apply.
In addition to HTA contributions, money for the scholarships has been provided by the HTA/NJTL (for a National Junior Tennis and Learning participant), the National Senior Women’s Clay Court Championships (for a young woman), the Steve Wolford Memorial Scholarship Fund, Sean Rudolph Memorial Scholarship Fund, World Oilman’s Tennis Tournament Scholarship Fund, CSE W-Industries Excellence Scholarship, the Copperfield Racquet Club Scholarship and the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship Scholarship.
Selection of students will be based on financial need, academic record, a personal letter explaining why the student deserves the scholarship, extracurricular and volunteer activities and two letters of recommendation. Contact 281-580-8313 or firstname.lastname@example.org for an application.
The deadline to apply is May 25, 2018. The application form can be downloaded from www.houstontennis.org/scholarships/.
The HTA has awarded more than $274,000 in scholarship funds to deserving high school seniors since 1992.
