WASHINGTON – In support of the National Fair Housing Alliance, Texas Housers, and Texas Appleseed lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) decision to suspend the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule (AFFH), Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement:
“The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights supports the National Fair Housing Alliance and other civil rights organizations’ lawsuit against HUD’s detrimental decision to suspend the AFFH rule. HUD has recklessly set back years of fair housing progress, and has undercut a law designed historically to provide opportunities for marginalized communities across the country. The agency’s careless decision threatens to leave behind many vulnerable families and individuals who deserve equal access to a better quality of life. Secretary Carson and the department must do their job and enforce our nation’s civil rights laws.”
