Sen. Cruz: ‘Dr. King’s Vital Message of Peace and Love Could Not Be Conquered by Death and Darkness’

Issues statement in remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr. on 50th anniversary of his assassination

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement in remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr. on the 50th anniversary of his assassination:

“Dr. Martin Luther King was an extraordinary champion for freedom and equality. He marched, preached, and fought tirelessly for America to fully embrace her founding promise — to ensure life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for those who had so long been denied them.

“Today, we observe the 50th anniversary of his slaying — a tragic and heartbreaking moment in our Nation’s history — but his vital message of peace and love could not be conquered by death and darkness. Dr. King triumphed, his vision and Dream moves closer and closer each day, and America will continue to triumph as long as we honor his lessons as well as his memory.

“With Easter fresh in our minds, today we remember the Reverend in a special way: ‘Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.’”
