Olson Announces Fort Bend Students Receive Military Academy Appointments

SUGAR LAND, TX – Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today announced that Jack Budzinski of Fulshear, TX has received an appointment to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Jacob Szymanski of Katy, TX has received an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, both for the fall of 2018. Budzinski is a freshman at Pennsylvania State University, where he has received a 4 year ROTC scholarship. He attended Saint John XXIII College Prepatory, where he was on the varsity football, baseball and track teams. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta honor society. He was also vice president of the Spanish club. Szymanski is a senior at Cinco Ranch High School and a TX-22 resident. He is a member of the track team and was recognized as the tennis team MVP. He is also a member of the math club and placed 8th in the National Science Olympiad competition. Jacob is also an excellent student and is in the top ten percent of his senior class. Olson will present Budzinski and Szymanski with proclamations congratulating them on their appointment. Budzinski and Szymanski are the seventh and eighth TX-22 students to receive academy appointments this year.

Military academy appointees are evaluated for a variety of qualifications including: moral character, strong academic record, demonstrated leadership potential, physical fitness, and commitment to serve a five-year military term in the United States Armed Forces upon graduation.
