Sen. Cruz: The American People are Rightly Outraged by the Systematic Failures of Law Enforcement in Parkland

Participates in Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the Parkland shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, participated in today’s committee hearing titled, ‘See Something, Say Something: Oversight of the Parkland Shooting and Legislative Proposals to Improve School Safety.’ There, Sen. Cruz questioned Acting FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich, and expressed his deep concern with the systematic failure of law enforcement in preventing both the Sutherland Springs and Parkland shootings.

“The American people are rightly horrified and outraged at the mass murders we have seen over and over again. Both at Parkland and at Sutherland Springs four months ago, both of those murders were preventable and should have been prevented. In my judgement, we have seen a catastrophic and systemic failure of law enforcement at every level.”

Sen. Cruz’s opening remarks and exchange with Acting FBI Deputy Director Bowdich may be viewed here. Sen. Cruz’s questions focused on exploring how it was possible for the FBI and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to miss numerous warning signs ahead of the Parkland shooting, particularly the failure to address several credible reports regarding the shooter’s violent nature.
