WHAT: Katy Prairie Conservancy’s (KPC) 2018 Bash: Be Part of Our Story will celebrate the nonprofit’s deep commitment to the conservation and enhancement of our coastal prairie. This annual fundraiser brings together hundreds of community members who are supportive of KPC’s mission to protect a sustainable portion of the Katy Prairie for the benefit of its wildlife and all Texans forever. KPC has protected more than 20,000 acres since 1992. The Katy Prairie is home to over 300 species of resident and migratory birds, 110 species of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles, and more than 600 species of grasses, wildflowers, trees, vines, and shrubs.
WHO: The honoree for 2018 Bash: Be Part of Our Story is Kurt Hanson, a tireless community volunteer who has been instrumental in KPC’s forward-thinking strategy for land conservation in the region. He assisted KPC in structuring the terms of three conservation agreements with local landowners, totaling nearly 1,600 acres of prairie protected, along with negotiating pipeline easement restrictions on two properties. This allowed KPC to restore the sites back to native grasses. Finally, Hanson developed a Program Related Investment strategy with a private foundation to restructure KPC’s property acquisition portfolio.
