Katy ISD Announces Advanced Placement (AP) Exams Available to Students

February 8, 2018 – Registration for Advanced Placement (AP) exams are now taking place for all Katy Independent School District high school students.  From February 6 to February 25, enrolled students and home schooled students, can receive details and register at their designated campus.  Late registration takes place from February 26 to February 28 with a $5 late fee per exam.

“Students who participate in AP courses experience college level instruction which builds academic confidence. Participation in AP exams provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate self-assurance and possibly earn college credit. By state law, all public colleges and universities must accept scores of 3 or higher for college credit,” says Alene Lindley, Katy ISD Director of Secondary Curriculum, GT and Advanced Academics.

“Katy ISD strongly encourages students to participate,” added Lindley.

Financial hardships should not be an impediment to take the exam.  Partial fee waivers are available for students in economic need.  A partial refund of $60 per exam is available for seniors who have been admitted to a college that does not accept AP exam scores for credit.  These refunds must be requested in writing to the home school counseling office by May 4 with documentation from the college or university’s AP exam policy.

AP exams are scheduled for the week of May 7-14 and May 23-25.  Students who need special accommodations must adhere to the College Board timelines. To determine the exact date of a particular exam, please visit www.collegeboard.com.
