Olson Announces Alvin Student Us Naval Academy Appointment Ryan Shaw

SUGAR LAND, TX– Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today announced that Ryan Shaw of Alvin, TX has received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy for the fall of 2018. Shaw is a senior at Alvin High School, where he is a member of the robotics club and swimming and water polo teams. He is a Boy Scout, Sea Scout and participates in the U.S. Navy SeaPerch program. Ryan has received numerous awards for his academic excellence, is a member of the National Honor Society and is president of the Rho Kappa Honor Society. In addition he is a member of State Rep. Thompson’s Student Leadership Advisory Council and Rep. Olson’s Congressional Youth Advisory Council. Olson will present Shaw with a proclamation congratulating him on his appointment. Shaw is the fifth TX-22 student to receive an academy appointment this year.

“Ryan’s appointment to the Naval Academy is a reflection of his academic excellence and outstanding community service,” Rep. Pete Olson said. “His accomplishment brings enormous pride to our community. It’s an honor to recognize this young man for his commitment to protect and defend our nation through service in one of our military academies. Military academy appointees are evaluated for a variety of qualifications including: moral character, strong academic record, demonstrated leadership potential, physical fitness, and commitment to serve a five-year military term in the United States Armed Forces upon graduation.
