Hawaii-Based Agu Ramen Bistro Expands To Katy, Tx With New Locations At Mason Park And Lacenterra At Cinco Ranch

HOUSTON, TX – AGU A Ramen Bistro, voted Honolulu’s best Japanese noodle shop, is on the quest for total ramen domination in Texas with the addition of two new Houston-area restaurants. The Mason Park location opens today, January 8, 2018, and the LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch restaurant will open January 15, bringing the total count to seven in the state of Texas.

“With the success of our first five AGU Ramen Bistros in 2016 and 2017, Texas has shown us its appetite for quality ramen noodles and Japanese-Okinawan cuisine is serious and growing by the day,” said owner and chef Hisashi Uehara. “With these new locations, AGU will serve the Katy community our innovative menu of appetizers, rice bowls and ramen with a touch of aloha.”

In addition to these new locations in Katy, the group opened its first Dallas restaurant at Mockingbird Station, located at 5331 E. Mockingbird Lane, Suite 125 Dallas, TX 75206 in November 2017.

Every bowl of AGU ramen begins with a signature broth: tonkotsu, jidori chicken, or vegetarian miso. Every single day, chefs prepare the tonkotsu broth by boiling more than a ton of pork bones for over 24 hours, resulting in a rich and creamy, complex soup. The satisfying tori (chicken) ramen broth comes from boiling organic, cage-free jidori chicken for nine hours, while the vegetarian miso-based broth has a savory, full-bodied flavor without the addition of meat.

AGU’s menu features dishes that pay homage to chef Uehara’s Okinawan and Japanese heritage, such as the tender Rafute or slow-cooked pork belly and the Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen, with a rich and milky pork broth and thin, Hakata-style noodles. The menu also includes original appetizers like the AGUcini, chef Uehara’s unique take on cheesy, deep fried arancini risotto balls topped with a tangy yuzu-citrus aioli.

About AGU Ramen Bistro

Chef and owner Hisashi “Teddy” Uehara opened the first AGU Ramen Bistro in 2013 at the Saint Louis Alumni Association in Honolulu, HI to immediate praise for his dedication and passion for crafting timeless, yet innovative recipes with the best ingredients available. Today, AGU operates 12 restaurants in Hawaii and Texas with immediate plans for further expansion. “Agu,” which means “fellowship” or “best friends” in Miyakoan, a dialect of Okinawa, Japan, is representative of the attitude Uehara exudes with each of his customers. AGU strives to deliver the best Japanese food through its labor-intensive ramen broths, artisan noodles, and signature bistro dishes like AGUcini and Cheek-a-boo Croquettes, and pays homage to their storied origins while delivering a creative and delicious experience. AGU is a four-time HONOLULU Magazine Hale Aina Award-winning restaurant in the Best Japanese Noodle category and has been featured nationally on websites such as ZAGAT, Eater, and Thrillist.
