Mayde Creek High School to Present Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights

Houston, TX – January 10, 2018 – Mayde Creek High School’s fine arts department is deep into rehearsals of the Tony Award winning In The Heights.

In The Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant Hispanic community in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood—a place where the coffee from the bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the streets explode with the songs and rhythms of three generations. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams, and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

The show was conceived, and the music and lyrics were written by, Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda is perhaps best known today as the creator of Hamilton, which won 11 Tony Awards in 2016 including Best Musical. The book for the show was written by Pulitzer award winner Quiara Alegría Hudes.

Mayde Creek’s production is directed by Kelley Hughes and Ruben J. Alcala.  Leading the cast are Samuel Holmes IV as Usnavi, Kaylee Lopez as Nina, Parker Munsey as Vanessa, and Andrew Holland as Benny.  Supporting performers include Ashley Galan, Samuel Oladejo, Mariana Velandia, and Glendaliris Torres-Greaux.
