Merry Texas Christmas to You

I hope you have a safe and Merry Christmas. As we enjoy the holiday season, here are a few updates from House District 132.

House District 132 Christmas Ornament

Each year, House Members select a constituent to imagine and create a visual representation of what makes their Texas House District special. These personalized ornaments decorate a majestic 23-foot, Texas-grown Christmas tree that stands in the House Chamber of the Texas Capitol during the holiday season.

Now in its ninth year, the district ornament project has proven to be a fun and educational experience for fellow Members and holiday visitors, who enjoy seeing artists’ depictions of what makes communities throughout Texas unique. This year, the tree will be on display from November 29th through January 2nd.

This year, Katy student Russell Leach created an ornament that depicts the strength of our community in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, commemorates the historic World Series win of the Houston Astros, and includes a nod to the iconic prairies and geese of historic Katy.

I was honored to attend the opening of Katy ISD’s third SPARK park, at Franz Elementary.

The SPARK program fixes up school playgrounds to provide a better place for students to play during the school day – and for the community to use as a park when school isn’t in session.

Thanks to the SPARK board for selecting our school and to Katy ISD for sharing their playground with the neighborhood.

Katy Mayor Chuck Brawner honored Col. Scott MacLeod, who ran the entire state’s National Guard Harvey rescue and recovery operations out of a makeshift headquarters at the Katy High School library.

The mayor presented an “Above and Beyond” award to MacLeod. We are grateful to the 6,000 Guardsmen who helped us in our time of need.

God Bless Texas!
