Nearly 200 Katy ISD Classes Benefit from the 20th Annual Promise to Read Program

(Katy, Texas)  – During the month of November, 83 community and business members from across Katy came together to bring the love of reading into almost 200 Katy ISD classrooms during Promise to Read.  This annual initiative is part of a 20-year-old tradition led by Katy ISD’s Partners in Education.  Promise to Read affords the community a unique opportunity to reacquaint themselves with the world of children’s literature by spending 30 minutes reading to a classroom of excited elementary students. Each November the program is offered over the course of two weeks at various elementary campuses.

This year’s Promise to Read was hosted at Jenks, King, Bethke, Schmalz, Hayes, Cimarron, Memorial Parkway and Stanley Elementary schools.  Host campuses rotate each year so that, over a four-year period, every Katy ISD elementary has an opportunity to participate.

Readers represented a cross section of local companies and organizations including:  Appreciation Financial, AXA Advisors, Bass Pro Shops, Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More, Books Alive!, Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union, Centerpoint Energy, Chick-fil-A Katy Greenhouse, Chick-fil-A Mason Rd, Christian Brothers Automotive, College Nannies and Tutors, Counter’s Tutoring Connection, Eventsia Group, Eye Level Learning Center of Katy Cinco Ranch, Harris County Public Library, Hasta la Pasta, H-E-B, Houston Community College NW, Huntington Learning Center, Katy Budget Books, Katy ISD, Keep Katy Beautiful, Medina Orthodontics, Members Choice Credit Union, PBK Architects, Pepper Lawson Division of Webber LLC., Prosperity Bank, Realm Professionals, Re/Max Grand, Ricoh, Second Baptist Church, The Conservatory of Music, The Glaser Group – McDonalds, Tilt Studio, Topgolf Houston-Katy, Tutor Doctor, West Oaks Hospital Excel Center and Yellow Rose Properties.
