Wreath-laying ceremony slated for Dec. 16 at Katy’s Magnolia Cemetery

An estimated 330 wreaths will be laid on the graves of military veterans on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Magnolia Cemetery in Katy.

The wreath-laying ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. at 6801 Franz Road.   More than 40 volunteers are expected to participate.

It’s a joint effort involving Way Out West Girl Scout Community, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9182 and Auxiliary, Texas American Legion Post 164, Texas American Legion Auxiliary Unit 164, and Schmidt Funeral Home.

Schmidt is providing a cemetery map and service identifications.  During a final walkthrough on Dec. 14, the graves will be marked with American flags.

The local program is part of National Wreaths Across America Day, which has wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, and more than 1,200 locations in all 50 states, at sea, and abroad.   This will be the first year Katy has participated.
