More than 4,500 participants help to raise funds for YMCA Annual Campaign

KATY – For the fifteenth year in a row, the YMCA Turkey Dash for local YMCA programs. Jointly organized by the Katy Area YMCAs and The Fellowship, the Thanksgiving morning race is presented by Reliant, an NRG company. Returning lead sponsors included Grand Vision, Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus, United Healthcare, British International School of Houston and BHP. Event proceeds provide scholarships for community members to participate in YMCA programs like youth sports, swim lessons and after school care.

As the largest fun run in Katy, the event attracts a wide audience each year, and this year more than 4,500 runners and walkers crossed the finish line in race options that included a 10K, 5K, 1 Mile Kids run and a 1 Mile Walk/Run. More than 500 volunteers helped to make the event possible, and more than a thousand spectators cheered as runners
made their way through Cinco Ranch and Katy.

Race organizers and participants noted that the event was of special importance following Hurricane Harvey.
“Running the 10K course, especially the route along Mason Road brought back many memories of Hurricane Harvey,”
said Rick Bozanich. “The scene was very different on August 28, when the citizen army of volunteers were there to help
evacuate families, including my own, affected by the flood. I am grateful for all those volunteers, as well as for all the
volunteers that worked so hard to make this a successful race.”

Greg Coop, District Vice President of the YMCA, said the event was successful because of the support of the local
community, committed volunteers and local businesses.

“The Turkey Dash is an event where families get together and celebrate a holiday while creating new memories. This
has been an especially important this year, in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, which displaced so many families,” said
Coop.
