Texas Renaissance Festival transports students to 16th century at 13th Annual School Days

HOUSTON (November 7- 8, 2017) —Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The King and Queen of the Texas Renaissance Festival welcome private, public and home-school students, grades K-12, on Tuesday, November 7, and Wednesday, November 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the Festival’s 13th Annual School Days. Last year, School Days broke records when over 66,000 students passed through the Festival’s gates.

School Days is Texas Renaissance Festival’s two-day event that allows students to step back in time to experience the sights and sounds of New Market Village, an authentic recreation of a 16th century European village. Students will interact with costumed characters representing the courts, culture, art, science and literature of the Renaissance Period. This year, Emmy award-winning and world-renowned 3D artist, Mark Kistler, will give drawing lessons to students at the event.

Students will have full access to the Festival grounds and have the opportunity to experience all the Festival has to offer. Jousting knights, musicians, jesters and magicians are ready to perform on stages and arenas throughout the village. Young lords and ladies will have the opportunity to learn courtly dances, the ancient art of falconry and the history of arms and armor. Students will also have the chance to compete in a range of contests including costume art, essay, poetry, music, theatre and trebuchet. The musical competitions include choir, band and orchestra. The theatre competitions are comprised of one-act plays, group or duet scenes and monologues. Also included are live demonstrations in pottery, glass blowing, blacksmithing, armor making and other arts and trades of this amazing period in history.

This two-day event is designed to be age-appropriate for all students. All events, shows and activities will be both educational and entertaining. Tickets are $9.00 per person, including same day ticket purchases at the gate. Patrons age four and under are admitted free. Lunch coupon books will be offered for $10.00 per person, which includes one entrée, one drink, one dessert and bonus tickets to return to the Festival on a weekend.
