CROSS COUNTRY

In the last meet before the District 19-6A championship meet, Oct. 14, Tompkins girls and boys dominate the results at the Strake Jesuit Crusader Cross Country Invitational. Both teams finished first.

Txrunning (www.txrunning.com) ranks the Tompkins girls XC team number eight in Texas. Senior Alyssa Balandran, number 15, freshmen LaurenTitus, 24 and Hayden Gold, 25. Coach Amy Pitzel administers the Coup d’etat for the season: “We beat the third ranked team, The Woodlands.”

Heidi Nielson, Cinco Ranch, set a new course record of 18:04.10 at The Brenham Hillacious Invitational.

Katy runners won the varsity boys and girls team titles, the junior varsity girls team title, and came in second in junior varsity for the boys. Cameron Coleman, Lorenzo Rosco and Anthony Vasquez placed in the top 10 individually.

FOOTBALL

The Katy Tigers are 3-0 with wins against The Woodlands, Cinco Ranch, and the latest, 37-0 over Taylor. The defense continues to play at a high level not allowing any opponent scoring. The offense is improving but remains a work in progress as quarterback Austin Marshall and his receivers continue to develop chemistry between each other. Katy is averaging 244.5 yards per game, five touchdowns, and four field goals.

In what normally boils down to either the last game of regular season, or very close to the last game, Cinco Ranch and Katy battle it out for the championship. In a quirk of scheduling this year the two District 19-6A powerhouses squared off against each other in their first district games.

The Cougars, eager to get back in the win column after losing to the Tigers, got off to quick start against Strake Jesuit scoring 14 in quarter one and seven in the second quarter. Strake adjusted defensively at half time and both teams were scoreless in the third quarter. The Crusaders tried for a win in the fourth quarter adding 13 in the fourth. The Cougars defense tightened up and held on to win 21-13.

Brant Kuithe scored first for Cinco Ranch on a 13 yard pass from Zach Easterly. Next was Tanner Radomski to score on a pass from Easterly, this one for 51 yards. Easterly final stats show 12 of 22 in passing for 165 yards

In rushing, Kuithe finished with 23 carries for 77 yards

In the second quarter Easterly connected with a 11 yard pass to Devin Staton. Will McDaniel converted the PATs. Seth Jones and Michael Wiley did the scoring for Stake Jesuit.

BIGGEST IMPROVEMENTS:

The biggest improvement of this young season goes to the Mayde Creek Rams with a record of 2-1. From 2013 – 2016 the Rams won-loss record was 4-36. A big reason for the Ram Rennaisance is quarterback Keyonte Fiakpui. Morton Ranch under new head coach Ron Counter and revamped offense goes into week 4 at 2-1. Seven Lakes, 1-2, faces Strake Jesuit, 2-1.

According to Max Prep stats, sophomore Danyle Courtley, Cinco Ranch, leads in hitting percentage at .340; freshman Allysa Batenorst, Seven Lakes, kill leader at 331; junior Morgan Janda, Seven Lakes, assists, 607; junior Allison Parks, Katy, serving aces with 43; senior Sophia Kidd, Katy in total blocks with 49; and senior Marcela Livermois, Morton Ranch in digs with 436.
