For immediate, short-term needs, grants in the amount of $250 are available for both Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirees and active public-school employees who are in need of emergency assistance resulting from Hurricane Harvey. The funds are available through the Texas Retired Teachers Foundation Disaster Relief Fund. Funds will be sent to the recipient in the form of a check and may be used for whatever emergency needs the recipient sees fit.
