Sens. Cruz and Blumenthal Lead Bipartisan Resolution to Commemorate Constitution Day

Senator Ted Cruz

Commemorates 230th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), ranking member of the Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, authored a bipartisan resolution to commemorate Constitution Day and the 230th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States of America.

This weekend, Sens. Cruz and Blumenthal both appeared on Discovery Education’s “Constitution Day Virtual Field Trip to the U.S. Senate” where they discussed the importance of the Constitution. Watch it here.

“Constitution Day commemorates a great historical achievement—one which was never seen before, nor fully repeated since,” Sen. Cruz said. “In a few short pages, the Founding Generation was able to construct a government that, through careful deliberation, put into practice not only the principles of liberty but also the mechanisms to ensure that liberty survived. Indeed, the Constitution’s very first words, ‘We the People,’ remind all that the real power of the United States lies with rights and wills of its citizens.”

“230 years ago, our Founders adopted the Constitution – a triumph for democracy that laid the groundwork for American greatness,” Sen. Blumenthal said. “The rights and freedoms enshrined in our Constitution have inspired generations of Americans to defend this nation – and inspired people around the world to fight for freedom. It is my honor to commemorate these achievements, and call on Americans of every age to continue the mandate to form a more perfect union, rooted in cooperation, liberty, and respect for the rule of law.”
