(WASHINGTON, DC) – As Hurricane Harvey floodwaters begin to recede, the nation’s top disaster recovery attorney has advice for the storm’s victims as they move forward and rebuild: August Matteis says homeowners must document their losses as much as possible because the Federal Emergency Management Agency will put them to the test.
“The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has been an absolute mess for over a decade, and in the last several years it was proved its insurers defrauded homeowners and denied them fair settlements of their claims,” Matteis said. “NFIP tortured Hurricane Sandy victims even more, and the program’s failure to respond fairly after Sandy became a hallmark of the Obama Administration. President Trump needs to follow through to make sure victims are properly treated in the wake of the storm.”
August Matteis is managing partner of Weisbrod Matteis & Copley, based in Washington, D.C., and is available for in-studio interview through the weekend.
