Katy ISD football alumnus in the news

While Katy high school football fans anxiously await the start of the football season, some former Katy ISD grads are getting their names in the news at their new college homes.

Troy McCormick (Mayde Creek) carried twice for 54 yards, including a 43-yard run, and added two receptions for 14 yards. Kyle Fulks (Katy) had a 16-yard rush and 19-yard kickoff return in University of Utah’s 37-16 victory over North Dakota.

Navone Gurley (Morton Ranch) blocked a punt that was recovered in the end zone for a 41-20 lead in the Sam Houston State victory over Richmond, 48-34.

Clay Holgorsen (Taylor) saw time at quarterback for Northwestern State in the Northwestern State – Louisiana Tech game, completing seven of 17 passes for 49 yards and two interceptions

Freshman Paddy Fisher (Katy) started at linebacker and made four solo tackles in the Northwestern University victory over Nevada.

Sophomore Kyle Porter (Katy) started at running back and carried eight times for 21 yards for Texas as the Longhorns faced off against Maryland.

ophomore Rodney Anderson (Katy) scored the first touchdown of the game less than three minutes in as the Oklahoma Sooners crushed UTEP 56 – 7

Junior defensive lineman Jesse Brown (Katy) saw action as the Red Raiders of Texas Tech ran all over Eastern Washington, 56-10.

Tyler Brown (Taylor) started for Houston Baptist University at right tackle in the game against Texas State. Kyle Bowling (Katy) contributed some tackles.

Braeden West (Seven Lakes) amassed 86 yards on only six carries for SMU in the 58 – 14 victory over Stephen F. Austin.  Sophomore Rodney Clemons (Taylor) produced two tackles and a pass breakup. Hayden Howerton (Katy) and Corey Rau (Cinco Ranch) all contributed to the Mustangs’ victory.

Corey Bethley (Katy) recorded his first four tackles as a Horned Frog in the TCU victory over Jackson State, 63 – 0.

Air Force 62, VMI 0: The Falcons proved superior in a meeting of military institutions, receiving defensive help from junior Cody Gessler (Katy).

Oregon State 35, Portland State 32: The Beavers received a fight from an in-state foe but prevailed with the help of starting linebacker Bright Ugwoegbu (Seven Lakes). Ugwoegbu made six tackles.

Fresno State 66, Incarnate Word 0: Junior Trent Soechting (Cinco Ranch) helped out on the defense for the Fresno State Bulldog victory. Incarnate Word’s defense included five tackles (four solo) from starting linebacker Quandre Washington (Morton Ranch). Sophomore receiver Colby Anthony (Katy) saw time as well.
