New picture book introduces young readers to science through STEM-based journey

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Mother and daughter tag team as book authors, Debbie Stevens; Amanda Davison, reckons that STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)-based learning allows anyone to discover their potential to make a difference in the world around them. “Where are the Bees?” (published by WestBow Press) shows readers the door towards educational and engaging literary adventure.

The book takes the reader through a STEM-based journey around grandmother’s farm. With each new day, dad, Jack and Charlotte examine many different insects in their natural habitats. Through observation, the family notices a decline in the bee population and they are motivated to do something about it.

Inspired by the recent decline on the number of the bee population, the author shares a story that shows young readers their part in saving them. As it uses the STEM-based approach to learning, youngsters will observe different courses in one book.

Aside from educators, parents can use this book to also teach the same concepts to their children. Young audiences will enjoy finding the patterns on each page and also learn about numbers in sets as they count the number of insects on each page and identify that number on Jack’s shirt.

“In Science education, STEM is extremely important today. We hope that this book will be a helpful tool to those seeking a career in a STEM -based profession in the future,” the authors says. “This book appeals to those in early education to help spark that interest at a young age.”
