SATA USA, Inc. has partnered with Texas State Technical College (TSTC) to provide job training using a $100,001 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will benefit workers in the Cameron Texas area.
“ This education and industry partnership provides opportunities for Texas businesses to cultivate a skilled workforce and remain competitive in the global marketplace,” said state Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr.
“The partnerships between local community colleges and employers continue to develop vital manufacturing growth in Texas,” said state Rep. Rene Oliveira.
“A skilled workforce is essential to our workforce and these grant partnerships between community colleges and employers will benefit local economies through job creation and increased worker wages,” said state Rep. Eddie Lucio, III.
“We are pleased to make this grant to SATA USA, Inc. and TSTC, which will provide high-quality jobs in the manufacturing industry growth for this area,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth Ruggero Hughs. “This grant is the perfect example of a win-win situation. The employer benefits by receiving a custom-trained workforce that will give them a competitive edge, and the employee benefits by receiving high-quality training and an opportunity to start a career in the best state in the nation.”
This grant will be used to provide customized training to 40 new workers for industry-related topics with focused instruction on machining, production processes and precision tool use. Trainees will include forklift operators, purchasing agents, quality technicians, metallurgists, gauge calibration technicians, heat treatment operators, non-destructive testing technicians. Upon completion of training, the workers will receive an average wage of $14.22.
Since its inception in 1996, the Skills Development Fund grants have created or upgraded more than 342,428 jobs throughout Texas. The grants have assisted 4,238 employers with their customized training needs. The Legislature allocated $48.5 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2016-17 biennium.
