Popular pediatrician’s second book helps ease the mind of new parents

Board-certified pediatrician Peter Y. Jung, M.D., F.A.A.P., of Houston’s Blue Fish Pediatrics has penned his second book. Available currently on Amazon.com, “What To Know Before Having Your Baby” is a follow up to his first book “What To Know Before Seeing Your Pediatrician.” The newest book will help reduce the anxiety of new parents by guiding them through “normal abnormals,”or issues that are not true health concerns, but which prompt a parent to wonder “Does this need to be evaluated?”

“My goal for the book is to provide parents with a better understanding of what is going on with their newborn baby,” said Dr. Jung. “By reading the book, I hope parents will feel more at ease about the myriad of rashes and noises that every baby makes.”

The 10-chapter, 151-page quick read covers a variety of topics, including rashes, development, feeding, sleeping, and the delivery day. Dr. Jung’s writings are paired with colorful and informative illustrations by Becky Kim.

“This book is an amazing resource for parents bringing home a newborn baby. It answers many of the common questions new parents have and it also explains many medical issues in a thorough, yet concise and easy-to-understand way. It’s an excellent quick read to put parents’ minds at ease,” says Dr. Neelish Kenia.

Dr. Mark Ward, Director of the Pediatric Residency Program at Texas Children’s Hospital agrees. “There are two types of EBM: evidence-based medicine and experience-based medicine. This book has both. Written by a seasoned pediatrician and father, parents will find it filled with advice regarding the care of their newborn that is scientifically sound and everyday practical.”

By the end of the book, readers will better understand:

  • What to expect on delivery day.
  • Common newborn findings of the skin, head, torso, diaper area, arms, and legs.
  • What to expect the first two months.
  • How to handle sleeping and feeding challenges.
  • Practical tips for going out with a newborn baby.
