Katy Resident Elected President of Houston Council of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority

Katy resident, Sharon Johnson-Munn, member of Epsilon Chi Master chapter, has been elected President of the Houston Council of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority.  Ms. Johnson-Munn was installed at the sorority’s 86th Founder’s Day Anniversary Luncheon on April 29 at Willow Fork Country Club.  Also installed to serve on the 2017-2018 Executive Board were President-Elect, America Stromek of Epsilon Phi Master chapter, Vice President, Dolores Fritz of Torchbearer Iota chapter, Recording Secretary, Patricia Woods of Xi Beta Kappa chapter, Corresponding Secretary, Debbie McFarland of Alpha Xi Zeta chapter, Treasurer, Debbie Schultz of Zeta Gamma Master chapter and Parliamentarian, Alice White of Epsilon Phi Master chapter.

The Founder’s Day Luncheon also included the presentation of each chapter’s Woman of the Year and a special announcement that Alice White of Epsilon Phi Master chapter had been selected by her peers and the Beta Sigma Phi International office to receive the sorority’s highest award, the International Award of Distinction. Currently, the Houston Council has three other members who have received the award, Carolyn Kares of Lambda Master chapter, Virginia Lee of Delta Master chapter and Dolores Fritz of Torchbearer Iota chapter.

The Houston Council of Beta Sigma Phi has been a community partner of The Arc of Katy for the past two years as The Arc of Katy has been the sorority’s service project.  The Founder’s Day Luncheon provided the final opportunity for fundraising to support The Arc of Katy and members donated $1,250 to support The Arc of Katy Summer Program.  This total brought the year’s donations, in kind and monetary, to $11,608.78.  Beta Sigma Phi, Houston Council is proud to have donated a total of $23,608.78 during its two years of having The Arc of Katy as a service project.  The sorority members have benefited from their association with The Arc of Katy and look forward to supporting them in various ways in the future.
