The Katy City Council Thursday afternoon passed an ordinance to annex approximately 73 acres of land in Waller County into the Harris-Waller Counties Municipal Utility District #3.

The land is in the F. Eule Survey, Abstract 376, in Waller County.

The annexation took placing following a petition filed by Katy 850, L.L.C., which owns the land. According to the petition, the “general nature of the work to be done within the land is the construction, acquisition, maintenance and operation of a waterworks and sanitary sewer system, a drainage and storm sewer system, and roads, parks, and recreational facilities.”

As part of the land acquisition, the council adopted a resolution authorizing an apportionment of municipal infrastructure cost agreement with Katy 850, L.L.C. Under this resolution, the city and Katy 850, L.L.C., agree to fund the development of Cane Island Parkway Phase I, Cane Island Parkway Phase II, the Union Pacific Railroad Crossing, the Highway 90 intersection and Franz Road within the city.

In other action Thursday, the council:

  • Adopted a resolution authorizing the Katy Development Authority to enter into an economic development agreement with Mall at Katy Mills, L.P. Initial mall improvements include selected floor tile and carpet replacement, refinishing of concrete and hardwood flooring, new common area furniture, and restroom renovations.
  • Adopted a resolution authorizing no more than $180,000 from reserve funds for the repair and remodeling of Katy Fire Station No. 1. In the city council agenda item request, City Administrator Byron Hebert and Fire Chief Russell Wilson said the money will enable repairs and remediation caused by water damage to the station.
