Adrienne Harrell tells story about ‘AN ALLIGATOR’S HIDE’

New book presents light-hearted spoof of greed, selfishness

AUSTIN, Texas – Adrienne Harrell began writing before she learned to read. She wanted to stimulate the imagination of young readers, which prompted her to write “AN ALLIGATOR’S HIDE: or Just Come Clean” (published by Xlibris), a light-hearted spoof of greed and selfishness.

The second in a series, the book follows the continuing story of Lily, a vegetarian alligator that was adopted by a family. One day, a policeman comes over and accompanies two selfish ladies in suits who want to use Lily’s hide to make purses and shoes. Lily is crying great big alligator tears. One of the ladies notices that there are tattoos all over Lily’s hide and does not want her anymore. The family keeps Lily and never lets greedy people use her for their own gains.

“Racial hatred and violence stemming from discrimination are an unfortunate part of our everyday lives,” Harrell says. “The underlying theme behind this book is acceptance of diversity through the family’s voluntary adoption of Lily.”

The publication of “AN ALLIGATOR’S HIDE: or Just Come Clean” hopes to make readers reassess their attitudes and responses to everyday situations. This book comes with a little bit of warning from the author though. Harrell says, “If you see an alligator who doesn’t wear flowers, it is not friendly. Do not go near the alligator!”
