Houston-Area Sees Second Month Of Strong Employment Gains

(HOUSTON) Houston-area employers added 13,300 jobs in March with nearly all industry sectors seeing positive growth, according to economists at Workforce Solutions.

Parker Harvey, the agency’s senior economist says the Business and Professional Employment Services sector added jobs for the second month in a row, “It’s modest growth, but it is often a signal that employers are beginning to staff up.”

Manufacturers added a net 1,500 positions in March, continuing a positive trend that began in December. “Particularly in the durable goods sector, which includes manufacturing for the oil and gas industry, we continue to see companies adding jobs,” Harvey says.

The Houston-area’s non-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate edged down slightly to 5.7%.
