“Calico” By Georgeanna Scardino

Georgeanna Scardino’s ‘Calico’ gets new marketing boost

Picture book follows story of homeless cat struggling to survive

CALERA, Ala. – Georgeanna Scardino’s love of cats and her concern for the homeless inspired her in writing “Calico” (published by Xlibris). Published in October of 2014, this book follows the inspiring story of a calico cat that was abandoned by her owner due to moving back to Mexico.

Readers follow Calico, a cat that was recently abandoned. In hopes of improving her life, she moves from city to city. In the process, she finds love, gets married and has three kittens. They take a cargo trip to Mexico and are met by her previous owner, the Gomez family.

“I see Calico, the homeless cat as a symbol of homeless people I have seen living under bridges,” Scardino points out. “The cats in this story represent moral values, fidelity and the desire to improve themselves. It reveals the importance of staying determined to make one’s dreams come true, just like Calico’s.”

Filled with colorful illustrations and a sincere, delightful narrative, “Calico” is a captivating story for both children and parents. It magnifies the importance of caring for the homeless as well as being nice to cats.
