‘Adventures in Service to God’ is Rev. Lawrence C. Spencer’s second publication
Rev. Lawrence C. Spencer previously published “The Ministry of Helps Manual” as a guide for pastors organizing churches. His new book, “Adventures in Service to God: Participant’s Workbook for the Ministry of Helps” (published by WestBow Press), is a companion piece for the volunteers to recap what they learned in their training.
“Modern society is digital and we are used to having myriads of information available to us ‘just a click away,’” Spencer says. “It is time we had a training manual centered on what is important in Christ’s Church not just topical information to make us better janitors or kitchen workers.”
“Adventures in Service to God” aims to teach the volunteers what is expected of them and what is important to God. In addition, the training manual is a way to foster a relationship between the pastor and the volunteer so they can learn about one another.
Spencer hopes volunteers will appreciate the opportunity the workbook affords to become comfortable witnessing and become a more effective church volunteer.

About the Author
Rev. Lawrence C. Spencer has worked in the Ministry of Helps in various churches for 40 years. He graduated from Bible school in 1983 and was ordained two years later. His background includes graduation from Golden Gate University with a Bachelor of Arts in public administration. He holds a lifetime standard Designated Subjects Teaching Credential for teaching in community colleges. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and seven years as a California highway patrol officer. He also worked as a sheriff’s deputy and a state narcotic agent. For 40 years he sold insurance.
