M. J. P. Padre debuts with historical novel

Army chaplain vividly paints effects of war through ‘My Flock in Yankee Blue’

Newest author M. J. P. Padre enters the literary scene with a realistic portrayal of the life of an American Civil War chaplain in “My Flock in Yankee Blue” (published by Xlibris). This is a historical novel richly back dropped by the American Civil War that was fought between 1861 and 1865. As it relives the war and bloodbath of the past, it also shows how such carnage not only killed men but also snuffed out one man’s burning faith.

This novel follows a Christian Chaplain in the Union Army during the Civil War that tore the United States apart. The country was divided and had it not been by the North winning the war, there would have been two nations. Chaplain Joshua Campbell shares his thoughts and experiences and the life of the everyday soldier in his diary, as well as about the carnage of the war that was around him. His narrative shows readers how much the war changed him and how much it changed his faith – how he ministered to his men without believing in God during this country’s darkest hours.

With his experiences as both chaplain and Civil War re-enactor, Padre is able to inject the right amount of insights and perspectives from both the spiritual and physical aspects of the war. “My Flock in Yankee Blue” is an engrossing retelling that shows “how a single man can have an experience that is so shocking that he loses all that he had and changes into a new person and loses his faith in god. Combat and war can do this to men and is happening today.”
