Get Tips On Writing College-Application Essays

At Cinco Ranch Branch Library Program

The college-application process has become more and more competitive as thousands of students hope to attain one of the coveted spots in the college of their choice. To help college-bound students navigate through this process and complete college-application essays that will help position their application in the best light possible, Fort Bend County Libraries will present a special program, “Mastering the College-Application Essay,” on Saturday, February 11, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., in the Meeting Room of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.

Dr. Jill Martiniuk, a university professor and college consultant, will talk about how to complete a college-application essay that will reflect the student’s achievements and make their submission truly stand out. Hear about different approaches, expectations from the university, and common mistakes to avoid.

Dr. Martiniuk is a Visiting Assistant Professor – Writing Fellow at the University of Houston. She has also served as an instructor/lecturer at the University of Virginia, where she received her doctoral degree in Slavic Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics. She is the senior consultant with JML College Consulting.

This program is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Cinco Ranch Branch Library at 281-395-1311 or the library system’s Public Information Office at 281-633-4734.
