The greater Houston area’s gala season kicked off the new year in the ‘burbs’with KCAM’s Un-Gala, Art is the Sauce, at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch on January 6. This deconstructed gala was a fun filled night including a taco bar by Bonefish Grill, an organic tea bar by Leafology, appetizers by Bon Chon, craft beer and wine by World of Beer and desserts by Nothing Bundt Cakes. Houston’s Ronnie Coleman Jr and Merlot filled the air with jazz tunes, Le’Andre Douglas wowed the crowd with fancy dancing and young Alexia Braggiato inspired with her contemporary take on classical ballet. Tyler Kay and Mark Deleon live painted canvases to a curious public and for sealed envelope bids.
KCAM’s board president, Kevin Douglas West introduced the dynamic director and founder, Ana Villaronga-Roman who wowed the crowd with yet again another first in our history – She called attention to the fact that the Un-Gala was the first art museum gala in Fort Bend County history. Houston’s Minnette Boesel spoke about the importance of the work being done by KCAM and how the Houston art world was present in large numbers to support KCAM’s great efforts.
KCAM awarded a new arts leadership award to begin recognizing those that are setting the stage for arts growth in the suburbs, named after the Fort Bend resident, founder of ARTreach, creative aging advocate and much more,Terri Bieber. Fort Bend County Commissioner, Andy Meyers was this year’s recipient of the Terri Payne Bieber Arts Leadership Award for his work in founding the Fort Bend Literary and Fine Art Show, now in its 4th year and setting the stage for the Fort Bend Culture Alliance.
