“Doing the Lambeth Walk” at Stratford Playhouse!
HOUSTON (November 18, 2016) – The 2016 Tommy Tune Award winning high school for Best Musical, Stratford Playhouse, announces this year’s Tommy Tune Awards entry, “Me and My Girl”, opening January 26, 2017. A British musical set in the 1930’s, “Me and My Girl” combines memorable music with comic writing to create an evening of pure fun! The musical tells the story of an unapologetically, unrefined cockney gentleman named Bill Snibson, who discovers he is the long-lost fourteenth Earl of Hareford. Non-stop tomfoolery unfolds as Bill attempts to prove himself worthy of his inheritance. As he and his fishmonger girlfriend Sally wrangle for his aristocratic family’s approval, every attempt to groom Bill for nobility results in riotous chaos.
Directed by CeCe Prudhomme, this Tony award-winning musical features a host of quirky characters, witty one-liners, riveting dance numbers, innovative set design and toe-tapping songs that make for an unforgettable evening for the entire family. “It has been thirty years since ‘Me and My Girl‘ became a hit on Broadway. With American’s fascination for the British Aristocracy and the popularity of British period dramas like ‘Downton Abbey‘ and ‘The Crown’, we felt the timing was right to revive this wonderful British comedy classic,” said Prudhomme.
“Our cast has loved learning the unique style and timing of British comedy. Although difficult, they’ve done an outstanding job learning the accents of both the British nobility and the working-class Cockney,” said Student Director, Rachel Stone.
“Me and My Girl” is an uproariously funny and sunny treat for all fans of musical comedy. Tickets for “Me and My Girl” are $16 in advance. Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m., January 26 through 28, and February 4 through 6, with matinee performances on January 28 and February 6 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available online or can be purchased at the Box Office at Stratford High School.
