Lady Spartans Of Seven Lakes Lead The Pack At The Midway Point

Half of the District 19-6A head to head volleyball is complete. The top four teams include Seven Lakes, 4-1 and 26-11; Katy, 4-1 and 24-9; Cinco Ranch 4-1 and 15-12; and Taylor, 3-3 and 12-10. Seven Lakes is in first because of having the most wins over the other teams.
Seven Lakes … the Lady Spartans returned much of their 2015 group of players. Senior, Camille Connor, is in her third year starting as setter. Last year she led the Lady Spartans with 7.8 assists per game entering district play, had a team high 39 aces, 39 blocks and averaged 1.8 kills and 2.1 digs. She is a two-time District 19-6A Setter MVP. She is the Lady Spartans leading outside hitter this year.
Before going into district play, the Lady Spartans had five players averaging a kill or better per set, including senor Beryl Edem at 2.4 and senior Natalie Pashby at 1.6. Junior Cassidy Nimtz leads the team with 53 blocks and serving up 24 aces.
Sophomore Natalie Winter, the libero for the Lady Spartans, was averaging 4.3 digs with 36 aces. Seniors Natalie Batton, Cheyenne Coffey, and sophomore Morgan Janda have more than 160 digs, averaging between 2.0 and 2.7 per set.
Danielle Batenhorst saw varsity action as a freshman and was a regular offensive contributor and all-district selection as a sophomore. She averaged a team high 3.7 kills, while adding 1.9 digs per set.
Present Seven Lakes stat leaders are:
Hitting Percentage… Edem at number three (.291) and Danielle Batenhorst in fourth place (.290); Conner is number one (851) in Assists; Total Blocks leaders include Nimtz at number three (63) and Edem at number four (53). In Kills, Edem is in second place (238), Conner is third (179), and Natalie Pashby at number five (172). Conner is number two in Serving Aces with 45. Winter is in the top spot in Digs (461) and Conner is fifth (239).
“We’ve set our goals. We have set our sights on what we want at the end of the season,” said Head Coach Farah Holder. The Lady Spartans ended last year at 29-12. This year at press deadlines, the Lady Spartans are 26-11 overall and 4-1 in District.
This year the Lady Spartans’ are state ranked 48 partly because of the play of Nimtz and Conner. Libero, Winter is literally all over the court with saves. “She does a great job, she plays a lot, loves it, and it shows on the court,” said Coach Holder.
